Rogerio joined the project full-time at the beginning of this year - his main role is to increase awareness of the project in Brazil and to act as the link between the UK charity and the Brazilian one. He has been instrumental in helping us to keep up to date with what they are doing there; and writes the updates we post on our blog. This is an update about his week that he wrote for us so you can all understand what day to day life is like at the project (translated online):
"Hello, my friends! I'm Rogério Muneron, one of the many people you've been helping. Today, I want to share a little about what happened last week and this week.
Firstly, I'd like to say a huge thank you for the offerings you've been sending. Your help is fundamental and represents the blessed hand of Christ in our lives, as it says in Matthew 5:7; "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy".
Now to the events. We had the opportunity to acquire materials seized by the Federal Government for the PBP. Lucas Mendes entrusted me with this task as a way of learning how to raise government funds. I drew up all the necessary documents and gave them to Lucas to send to the government. Now all we can do is pray that this opportunity materialises.
Another activity I've taken on is that of driver. Last week, our van broke down, and some activities depend on a car. For example, I picked up a donation of bread from a neighbouring district. We have a brother in Christ who owns a bakery and donates bread on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I also took and picked up the children from the Casa Lar for their activities at the PBP Headquarters. I used my own car to pick up materials to paint the façade of the main project building, which, by the way, is almost finished! Thanks to your help, the façade is looking beautiful. And it will be even more beautiful when the "Team Toucan" arrives to do a special design. We can't wait to welcome you and share this inspiring experience.
On Monday 17th, I accompanied the football class on a visit to the landfill site located near our neighbourhood. Many of us have grown up watching the landfill take shape, but few have had the opportunity to understand how it works up close. The visit was very important.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask for the support of our brothers and sisters in prayer, because we are in a delicate period at PBP. We are stepping up our monitoring of the families of those we serve, and every day the importance of the project's programmes and activities for these families becomes clearer.
What makes the situation worse is that we are in a political year, and we know that in our country social policies are used as tools for promotion and even election campaigns. That's why we need to act with caution, because the PBP carries out social policies and also protects citizens' rights.
To summarise, my activities ranged from practical assistance to therapy. I have also drawn up some reports on specific activities. (to be found on our blog) My brothers and sisters, I wish I could speak to you directly, but I'm glad that we have the opportunity to communicate through these texts and that I can share a little of my routine, even if only in a superficial way. May God greatly bless each and every one of you."
If you wish to send Rogerio a message in return you can email rogerio@projetobompastor.com.br and he will use a translator to read it.
